Virgene M. (Meindl) Ciha

Virgene M. Ciha, age 88, of Manitowoc passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 after a brief illness.

Virgene was born on September 18, 1934 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Chester and Margaret (Handl) Meindl. She graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1952. After graduation held an administrative position at Mirro Aluminum. On September 25, 1954 Virgene was married to the love of her life, Lloyd D. Ciha at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She dedicated her life to being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Virgene enjoyed baking her delicious stollen, pies and cookies that were enjoyed by so many. She also enjoyed gardening and was so proud of her vegetable and flower gardens. Virgene was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and currently a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Survivors include her beloved husband: Lloyd of 68 years; six children and their spouses: Mary (Erwin) Haban, Ann (Randall) Leonard, David Ciha, Daniel Ciha, Ellen (Greg) Levande, John (Denell) Ciha, her grandchildren: Eric (Nancy) Haban, Elgin Haban, Noah (Michelle) Haban, Alexander (Ashley) Leonard, Stephanie (Kevin) Binns, Justin (Erin) Levande, Jordan (Elizabeth) Levande, Samuel Ciha, Emily Ciha, Seth Ciha, Maxwell Ciha; her great-grandchildren: Frank and Lorraine Haban, Filomena and Edison Haban, Jaxsen and Evan Leonard; one sister: Bonnie Meyer; one brother and sister-in-law: Jack (Jane) Meindl, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Chester and Margaret Meindl; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Eunice (Robert) Engert, Richard Meyer; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Louis and Adeline Ciha; one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law: June (Edward) Shimon.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. The Rev. Matt Colle will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM.
