Richard Joseph Melichar

Richard Joseph Melichar, age 99, of Manitowoc, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

Richard was born in Manitowoc to the late Anton and Rose (Cherney) Melichar on May 28, 1923. He attended Lincoln High School in Manitowoc. Richard went on to serve in the Army & Merchant Marines during World War II. He worked in the seaman engine department and completed eleven trips in the Atlantic during his service. Prior to his service in the military, Richard worked at Kaufmann’s Manufacturing. Upon his return from the service, he did floor coverings at Westphal’s. He went on to work in the maintenance department of Associated Bank until his retirement. On June 27, 1950, he married the former Dolores Lambries at St. Mary’s Church in Manitowoc, and they shared 72 years together.  Richard enjoyed fishing and watching football in his free time.

Richard is survived by his wife: Dolores, Manitowoc; 2 sons: Robert Melichar, Two Rivers, David (April) Melichar, Michigan; one daughter: Debra (Tim) Meyer, Manitowoc; 3 grandsons: David Melichar Jr., Manitowoc; Drake Melichar; Joshua Meyer, Manitowoc; and one granddaughter: Alicia Meyer, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive. Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Anton and Rose; one brother: Raymond Melichar; one infant brother: Tony Melichar; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law: Albena (Melichar) and George Orth, Viola (Melichar) and Lawrence Jensen; and Mary Melichar.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Pfeffer Funeral Home (928 S. 14th Street, Manitowoc) at 11:00 AM with Deacon Alan Boeldt officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
