Oakley Kelty Obituary

Oakley “Oak” C. Kelty, 86, a resident of Manitowoc for 24 years, passed away comfortably on Monday afternoon, June 21, 2021 at the Unity Menz Residence in De Pere, WI. He was born September 14, 1934 to his parents Oakley E. and Pauline A. (Lehmann) Kelty in San Bernardino, California. He attended local schools and then enlisted into the US Navy in September in 1954. After completing basic training, he was assigned to Pt. Mugu, the Navy’s missile testing and tracking facility for two years. He then served for two years on the USS Perkins DDR-877 and was honorably discharged on August 30, 1958, although remained in the Reserves for an additional four years.

He loved living in Manitowoc, and enjoyed the changing seasons, feeding and watching the birds, and until recently, as long as he was able, he frequently took long walks along the lake. Oak was a loving, kind and generous husband and father. He was a private and gentle man, who was happiest spending time with family and friends. Oak enjoyed reading, while listening to his favorite classical music, with Higgins, their much-loved Cavalier Spaniel at his side.

He married the former Gaile Jordan on June 23, 1957 in the First Presbyterian Church in Fontana, California. Oak was employed by Ameron International in 1959 and retired after 38 years, in September of 1996. He and Gaile moved to Wisconsin and made their home in Manitowoc. In addition to his wife, Gaile, he is also survived by his sons: Jeff (Linda) and Mark (Lisa); grandson: Taylor; and a nephew: Dennis (Lisa) Eaves. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister: Cherie Eaves.

The family is grateful to the staff of Unity Hospice, especially Kristen, CNA, for their gentle and compassionate care given to Oak, and for their kindness and consideration extended to Gaile.

Cremation has taken place at Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Per Oak’s wishes, no services are being held.
