With great sorrow, we announce that Mark Mills passed away on March 29, 2024. He was a fighter to the end, but even with the valiant efforts of Manitowoc County sheriffs, EMS, and professionals in the Aurora emergency department, it was his time to go.
Mark was born to Don and Joyce Mills in Glendale, Wisconsin, on August 29, 1960. He graduated from Grafton High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh. There he met the love of his life and future wife, Robin. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration and married Robin soon after. Mark had many accomplishments after college but found his calling in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Military Police and received numerous awards for outstanding service. After five years, he retired from the military and moved to Two Rivers, Wisconsin, with Robin and their only son, Michael. There, he worked as a security officer at the Point Beach nuclear power plant until he retired in 2019. Subsequently, he worked part-time at the Manitowoc Fleet Farm and Two Rivers Aurora Medical Center.
He embraced physical activity and almost always worked out two hours a day at Planet Fitness. He was also often in the company of the much-loved family Labrador Raven and Great Dane Groot. He loved to drive with Groot’s enormous head sticking out of the sunroof, drool flying in the breeze. They provided numerous photo ops for amused onlookers.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Robin, with whom he would have celebrated their 41st anniversary later this month, and a proud father of his son Michael. He loved his four grandchildren dearly and looked forward to their visits to his northern Wisconsin lake home, where he shared his love for fishing and lake life. He regularly visited the Rhinelander area to hunt, fish, and experience peace.
He is survived by his wife, Robin (Roemer) Mills; son, Michael Mills, and his wife, Erica (Kammer); and his four grandchildren, Jason, Damian, Grayson, and Talia Mills. He is also survived by his aunt Beverly Melder, the last living relative on his father’s side, along with cousins Dave, Ronald, and Gary Melder. His mother and father, Joyce and Don Mills, preceded him in death.
A celebration of life will be held at EAA Chapter 383 Hangar, 1805 Freedom Road, Building 22, Manitowoc, WI, at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Please dress casually in layers to allow for weather changes, and bring a lawn chair in case extra seating is needed. Please provide a dish for the potluck lunch to follow the service.
