Marie Grace (Lehrmann) Skarvan

Marie Grace (Lehrmann) Skarvan, age 90 of Manitowoc, passed away Friday morning, January 6, 2023 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center of Manitowoc.

Marie was born on October 6, 1932, in Two Creeks a daughter of the late Henry and Grace (Benzow) Lehrmann. She was the oldest of six children who grew up and worked on the family farm. She met her future husband; Eugene Skarvan when he was hired by Marie’s father to drive a milk truck for the farm. Marie and Eugene were married just before he was deployed to Korea. Upon his return, the couple purchased a home in Shoto. In addition to raising a family, Marie worked most of her life in a variety of jobs. Later in life, she returned to school and earned her Nurse’s Aide Certification (CNA) and worked as a Home Health Aide. She cared for family members of others with the same love and care she showed her own family.

Marie had many hobbies including keeping a yard-full of beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She and Eugene were members of a Square-Dancing group. Marie sewed elaborate and beautiful matching costumes for them. She liked to experiment and try new things. Her curiosity often showed up in her cooking and baking. She made dishes her family had never heard of. She carried on family traditions like the annual trip to Door County to pick cherries. The trip was shared over the years with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her brother: Roger Lehrmann, and her ex-husband: Eugene Skarvan. She is survived by her sisters: Jean (Dick) Becker, Eileen Gretz, Louella (David) Soukup and Joyce Mueller all of Wisconsin. She is also survived by her children: Jill Skarvan Aremband; Houston, TX, Jolene Skarvan Kopetsky (Pete Walkner); Whitelaw, and her grandchildren: Jamie Vanne (Chad Hoerth); Manitowoc, Lisa (Brian) Blumenband; Berkely, CA, Jody Aremband (Connor Gibbons); Cleveland, OH, Marie will also be missed by her great-grandchildren: Brianna Vanne (David) Martin; Two Rivers, Baileigh Vanne (Tommy Xiong); Manitowoc, and a future great-great grandson: Theo.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at the Klein & Stangel Funeral Home, 1420 22nd St. Two Rivers from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Marie’s memory to the charity of your choice.
