Leroy Olson Obituary

Leroy L. Olson, age 88, of Manitowoc passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at his residence.

Leroy was born February 21, 1933 in Manitowoc, son of the late Raymond  and Gertrude (Kuehne) Olson.  He was a graduate of Lincoln High School with the Class of 1951.  Leroy was a member of the Wisconsin National Guard.  He also served in the US Army Security Agency in Germany.  On June 15, 1957 he was united in marriage to the former Elaine Swetlik at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville, WI.

Leroy served an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker and was employed as a machinist working for ADM Malting prior to his retirement.  Leroy is remembered for his tremendous enjoyment in repairing equipment by fabricating parts and entire pieces of equipment.  He was a very good role model to boys as a Boy Scout master and he and his wife served St. Paul's Catholic School as president of the Home and School Association.  Leroy participated in serving the Lord in numerous other capacities for his Church over the years as well.  He enjoyed camping and family vacations by traveling.  In addition, Leroy took pleasure in gardening and volunteering along with Elaine at the Capitol Civic Center in Manitowoc.  

Survivors include his wife:  Elaine, Manitowoc; his children: son Charles (Wanda) Olson, King George, VA; and their children Philip and Daniel Olson; daughter Connie (Donald) Foltz, Ft. Atkinson; and  children Matthew and Ryan Taylor; daughter Carol (Thomas) Albright, Manitowoc; and their daughter; Jenna (Charles) Ingrisch; son Craig (Jennifer) Olson; and their son John Olson; one nephew:  Steven (Karen) Olson, Manitowoc; one niece:  Elisabeth (Daniel) Tienor, Manitowoc. Several in-laws:  Beatrice Antholz, New Holstein; Florence (Kenneth) Frederick, East Dundee, IL; Janice Wanek, Appleton; Nancy Staudinger; Allan Swetlik; Dale (Lynn) Swetlik; Sharon Swetlik; Janice Swetlik, all of Manitowoc; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Leroy was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Gertrude, one brother, Eugene and sister-in-law Grace Olson, father-in-law Quirin Sr. and  mother-in-law Eleanor (Braun) Swetlik as well as several in-laws:   Byron Swetlik and Barbara Swetlik, Leroy Swetlik, Quirin H. “Junior” Swetlik, Ronald Staudinger, William “Bud” Antholz and  Susan Swetlik.  

Cremation has taken place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc an a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand (1416 Grand Ave), Manitowoc.  Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Doug LeCaptain with burial of Leroy’s remains taking place following services at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Leroy’s name be given to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin ( P.O. Box 1997, Milwaukee, WI  53201).
