Julia Mae Hendricks, age 90, entered eternal life on January 25th, 2022, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers. Julia was born on July 3rd, 1931, in Manitowoc, to parents Nellie (Duzeski) and Carl Jorgensen.
Julia attended St. Paul Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949, with honors. While at Lincoln High School, Julia was active in the marching band and was an accomplished majorette soloette.
Julia lived a true-life, love story, that began when she became a pen pal to a soldier she had never met and led to 71½ years of marriage. On September 9, 1950, Julia married that soldier, James Hendricks, a Chicago native, at Saint Paul Church in Manitowoc. This year they would have celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Julia was employed with the Manitowoc Clinic, where she worked in Medical Records and Insurance for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and mastered many crafts throughout her lifetime. In her later years, Julia enjoyed puzzles and especially help from family and friends to complete them.
Julia is survived by her husband, James Hendricks; her dog, Abby; and three daughters, Lynn Scheinoha and her special friend Kurt Engeldinger; Sherry (Kevin) Schmitt; and Kathleen (Gary) Kennedy. Julia loved her eight grandchildren, Chad (Jenny) Scheinoha; Benjamin (Kayce) Schmitt; Patrick (Jenifer) Schmitt; James Scheinoha (fiancé Michelle Mangel); Ryan (Allison) Schmitt; Zachary (Michelle) Kennedy; and Jordan (Lindsey) Kennedy. Julia cherished visits and activities with her ten great-grandchildren, Gracee and Katie Scheinoha; Mason, Carson and Addison Downs; Sydney and Joseph Schmitt; Nolan and Miles Schmitt; Quinn Kennedy and was looking forward to meeting two new Kennedy great-grandchildren this year. Julia is further survived by a brother, Jerome Jorgensen, California; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Patrick and Irene Hendricks; a sister-in-law, Colleen Gorski and many nieces and nephews. She is further survived by friends she considered as family.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nellie (Duzeski) Jorgensen; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Louis and Marie (Wheeler) Hendricks; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Virginia Hendricks; brother-in-law, Theodore Gorski; sister-in-law Joanne Jorgensen; son-in-law, Jerome Scheinoha; her only granddaughter, Caryn Scheinoha, and many aunts and uncles.
Julia was a life-long resident of Manitowoc and enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her summer home, in Door County, and later, their winter home in Fort Myers, Florida.
Julia’s family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses in ICU, ICU step-down, the third-floor medical unit providers, and the Aurora Hospice nurses. Their devotion to professional, empathetic patient care is inspirational.
A private family mass and celebration of life is being held at St. Mary’s Clarks Mills parish, with Father Richard Klingeisen officiating. There will be no visitation.
