Judith "Judie" (Field) Stuntz

Judith “Judie” Field Stuntz passed on peacefully in the presence of three family members and a close friend, at the age of 81, on May 10, 2022, at Holy Family Memorial medical Center, Manitowoc after a courageous eight- month battle with lymphoma.

Judie was born on July 20, 1940, in Norman, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Robert and Wilma Erma (Mooney) Field. While growing up she attended schools primarily in Indiana and Illinois, and eventually earned a MA in Education from Purdue University in 1973. She taught elementary school for three years.

From Judie’s first marriage of thirteen years to Thomas Stolz, she had four children and nine grandchildren: Barbara Stolz with her son Joshua; Robert Stolz and his wife Kristin (Kurtz) with their sons Donald and David; Deborah and her husband William Hibbard with their children Lauryn, Jordan, and Kendra; Sandra and her husband Reginald McBreairty with their children Thomas, Megan and Benjamin.

Judie was blessed in her second marriage to Edgar C. “Pete” Stuntz on April 24, 1976, with son Daniel and his three children: Naomi, Leon and Matthew from Daniel’s first marriage with Yukiko T. Stuntz. Daniel currently resides in Kamakura, Japan with his second wife Izumi (Miyamoto).

Pete’s previous marriage was also a very important part of their life- a wonderful, adopted stepdaughter and Native American Yvette, who was married to Stephen Woosley and their family of two children and six grandchildren: Nicholas and his wife Heather Woosley, with their children Malaki, Xylie, Sylas and Millie; Lauren and her husband Joe Young, with their children Logan, Jack and Chloe. Judie’s life was truly blessed with three great-grandchildren: Ayden and Cody Menges who lived nearby and brought unexpected joy whenever they visited; and Katarina Hibbard who is just a little princess and a bundle of joy.

Judie considered being a mother and life-long volunteer as a calling: helping teachers while going to school, assisting in the resettlement of some 150 Laotian and Vietnamese refugees in Lafayette, Indiana; serving as a volunteer for 20 years with the Capitol Civic Centre; serving four churches she was actively involved in over the years including being Deacon and Elder; being a member of the local Domestic Violence Center’s board, along with being on the Board of the John Libby Family Association (JLFA). For 28 years Judie donated her time and skills to projects and events taking place in the retirement community where she and her husband lived. From 1992 to 2016 Judie focused her “free time” on her family’s genealogy, especially that of her father’s John Libby’s ancestry, now totaling over 197,000 descendants and their spouses for the JLFA.

Since the 1980s, Judie and Pete traveled extensively to over 62 countries around the world. Together they enjoyed playing cards, board games with the family, and were avid readers. They also liked to watch the Brewers, Tiger Woods, and the Green Bay Packers on television when not attending other fun and relaxing times with their close friends whom they so cared for deeply.

Judie was deeply grateful for her faith in and support from God and everyone who helped her in her passion for life. This has helped her set a positive example for those she has touched!

Preceding Judie in death were her parents, Robert and Wilma Field, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Edgar F. and Jeanne C. Stuntz, her brother Kenneth Field, and her first husband Thomas Stolz.

A memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Dr. Matthew Sauer at the First Presbyterian Church, 502 N.8th St, Manitowoc, at 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
