Gary James Nygaard

Gary James Nygaard, 67, of Shawano passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Theda Care in Shawano.

Gary was born on February 17, 1955 in Menominee, MI to Norman and Elaine (Courtois) Nygaard. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School. On October 30, 1992, he married the love of his life, Connie Sauer.  Gary worked at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution as a correctional officer until his retirement. After retirement he worked for TSA in Madison.   Gary was an avid sports fan, particularly college football and the NFL, especially the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed taking cruises, casino trips, visiting national parks and going hiking and biking. Gary was known as a jokester and looked forward to dressing up as Santa during the holiday season.

Gary is survived by his wife: Connie; brothers: Tom Nygaard, and John (Donna) Nygaard; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Kathy (Larry) Jessen, Nancy (Larry) Fix, James (Barb) Sauer, Vicki (Don) Wiesner, and Mary (Luke) Blitzke; and special friends: Dick and Mary Sauer. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his faithful companions: Murphy and Maddie; parents: Norman Nygaard and Elaine Dalton; parents-in-law: Walter and Loretta Sauer; and brother: Mark Nygaard.

A private family service was held. Inurnment was held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Plymouth.
