Ansel A. Tupper of Sheboygan, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the age of 94.
He was born on December 19, 1927 in Plymouth, a son of the late Ansel J. and Norma F. (Leonhardt) Tupper. He attended the Harman Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1946. On February 6, 1954 he married Martha J. Martin at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. The couple made their home in Sheboygan where they raised their son, Ansel C. Tupper. Martha preceded Ansel in death on December 28, 2007.
Ansel served his country in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947 in the South Pacific aboard the USS Nevada and the USS Springfield. Ansel had the privilege of being able to go on an Honor Flight with his neighbor, Dennis, on July 12, 2015. Ansel was a barber for over 56 years and self employed for 50 of those years retiring on June 1, 2004. He loved getting to know his clients over the years and the friendships that transpired.
Ansel was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth, where he looked forward to helping with the church garage sale, the Men’s Club, the Sheboygan Masonic Lodge #11 and the Cassia Lodge #167 in Plymouth where he became Master of the Lodge in 2003. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Lodge of the Valley of Milwaukee. He was on the Board of Directors of Salem Green, an active member of the Sheboygan Rifle and Pistol Club and the COPD support group of Sheboygan. For many years Ansel was the Sexton of the Farmin Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Ansel and his wife, Martha, enjoyed many USS Nevada reunions and many summers at the cottage on Crystal Lake with his family.
Survivors include his son: Ansel C. (Janice) Tupper; a granddaughter: Aimee Coronado; a grandson: Jeremy A. (Grace) Tupper; two great-grandsons: Seth and Ayden Coronado and his loving companion, Janice Bunyea. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife; a brother: DeEsten “Teene” and sister: Betty Jane (James) Laack.
Funeral services to celebrate Ansel’s life are on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 5:00 pm, at Salem United Church of Christ, 217 Salem Dr., Plymouth with the Rev. James Hoppert officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the church from 2:30 pm until 4:30pm. There will be a Masonic Service at 4:30 pm with the funeral to follow with military honors accorded. Ansel will be laid to rest at Farmin Cemetery, Town of Lima.
